Independence Day Rally, 4th of July 2010, Liverpool

Liverpool supporters’ union Spirit of Shankly have organised an Independence Day Rally to be held this Sunday, 4th of July 2010, at St George’s plateau, Liverpool at 12 noon.

The event will feature addresses from Karen Gill (Bill Shankly’s granddaughter), John Aldridge (ex-Liverpool striker and board member of Share Liverpool FC), Steve Rotheram (inspirational speaker, former Lord Mayor of Liverpool and now MP for Walton) and Neil Fitzmaurice (actor, writer, star of One Night in Istanbul to name just one).

Spirit Of Shankly representatives will issue their Declaration of Independence.

There will also be live music from Ian McNabb (Icicle Works), John Power (Cast and The Las), Peter Hooton (The Farm), John O’Connell (Groundpig), Pete Wylie (Wah!) and the Sons of Anfield.

  1. I am all for protesting as the owners need outing, but to have a USA Flag on the poster and organise it on Independence day is a smack in the face for our estimated 500,00 fans in the US. The US is a huge market and this will damage the name of the club. SOS need to look at themselves for this…they should not be damaging our reputation worldwide. Some idiot is bound to burn the USA flag…we will look like idiots!

    I think you’ll find it’s the two biffs who own us that are damaging our worldwide reputation not SOS. Is is really that offensive to have a promotional poster that uses the stars and stripes on Independence day ? Why is that a slap in the face ? SOS have specifically requested that people do not insult or burn the flag as the protest is not about America as a country but about two American citizens who are destroying our club for money. Your knee-jerk observations make you look more like an idiot rather than the imaginary person you have forseen burning the flag. Are you a soothsayer by any chance ?

    I share your concerns, but would like to add that it is only a minority that will be misbehaving, and I would also like to add that these people want to run the club!
