Champions League Result

Liverpool 1 Lyon 2

Jamie Carragher: “It’s massively disappointing for us and it gives us a lot to do. They caught us on the counter attack for the second goal. We would have been disappointed not to win but to lose that late in the game is even more so.

(Asked if Liverpool need to win all three remaining games) “You never know how results are going to go, so you’ve just got to look after yourself and try to win every game – and that’s something we’re looking to do now. It leaves us with a lot to do. We’re going through a tough patch but we’ve been through them before. We’ll bounce back, there’s no doubt about that. We always bounce back because we’ve got a lot of fight and character.

“It’s always a great game (the visit of Manchester United to Anfield on Sunday). That could be the game we need – if we win it will give everyone a massive lift.”

  1. 67 players bought over his time in charge and look at our bleeding team tonight. We only have 3 first team players injured for gods sake.

    Its not on.

What a bloody mess this man has made of our club.

Its not the fact we lost tonight its the quality of the side we put out. And thats the best we got at the moment. After 6 years in charge.

Disgusting Benitez. Ngog and Voronin wouldn’t get in any other Premiership side.

    Enough is enough.

And on top of the two lousy centre forwards, he plays a decent centre forward and a defender in the middle of the park. And that’s all he can do because we’ve got no squad. He has destroyed the squad.

Kelly be proud you played well tonight mate. Once Gerrard went you had no chance with that midfield in front of you.

I emphasise, its not the result. Its the quality of the team we struggle to put out. We have no squad. Only one man to blame. 67 players bought and look at the bench. It really does show how poor he has been in the transfer market and how irresponsible our boss has been.

  2. It was a terrible result Cantos and every fan has the right to vent their frustration and like you if they feel the manager isnt doing a good enough job then you are perfectly within your right to call for him to go.

As you know I dont share the same opinion as you and I dont like other fans (not you) calling for his head when they have previously backed the manager to the hilt under better times.

We will just have to agree to disagree. I will dispute one point with you on injuries. You say we had 3 first team players out but I would stretch that and say we had as many as 5. You can argue that Aquillani is not a first teamer yet but he was purchased for the first team so I would include himself, Riera, Johnson Torres and Gerrard who had to come off.

  3. @ Juan

Fair enough pal. Its just frustration talking, but I’ve seen this coming for a long time, I’m talking 2-3 seasons ago.

I’m hoping Rafa goes for a 4-4-2 on Sunday and tells the players to go for it.

If we beat the Scum then you never know things might just change. If everyone can stay fit and Aqualani is a success then we might just have enough in the tank to challenge.

Benitez though has to realise that this formation he sticks with and zonal marking just is not working. I cant understand why he doesn’t try something new. Zonal marking can work, if you have the right players and the right balance. We just don’t have those kind of players. We have more of a bulky/hard defence and should go man to man. Also people on the posts would help and why does he pull everyone back, at least leave 1 or 2 players up near half way to negate a total threat on our goal.

Back to basics ain’t such a bad idea, its gotta be worth a try and nobody would be expecting it.

With a limited squad I’ve been trying to pick my ideal starting 11, working on the basis that all are fit.

    Reina

    Kelly Carrager Agger Insua

    Johnson Gerrard Masch Aqualani

    Torres Kuyt

Bench. Cavalieri, Benayoun, Skrtel, Riera, Aurelio, Spearing, Ngog and lucas

that’s my perfect start. Kelly is a controversial choice, but he did a job yesterday and i think Johnson would be so effective as an attacking winger. Plus Kelly would not have to worry about getting forward.

As i say they would all have to be fit.

    Right back to work lol.
