Barclays Premier League, October 28th 2007 – Result
Liverpool (1) 1 Arsenal (0) 1
Reaction:
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez: “Torres has the same one as before and Xabi also has the same (injuries). It was going well but we had problems with Torres. We wanted to use his pace and he then had the injury, then Xabi Alonso and we had to change.
“At home we have always won a lot of games and had a good record. We now have a good record away and need to improve at home but a draw at the end, because they also had chances, was probably not the worst.”
Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher: “It was a great game, I’m just disappointed not to get a goal at the end. When you go 1-0 up you are disappointed. Both teams were going for it and Arsenal play great football, but I’m gutted we couldn’t hold on. We are Liverpool and we should be expected to beat Arsenal at home. We tried to hit them on the counter attack and if Torres had stayed on we might have been more dangerous, but have to be pleased with the way we played, we’ve got a few injuries at the moment.”
Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas: “We played well but at the end, the result is what matters. I’m disappointed because I hit the post and we go home disappointed because we deserved to get the three points. The good thing is we came back and showed character and played good football. I didn’t take it (his goal) well but sometimes you score easy goals.”
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger: “It was a big test today but we have shown tremendous quality. Of course it will be a big challenge but we will be there. Overall it was a great football game, a bit of an edgy start and we were punished quickly. From then on it was all us and it was a question of not conceding a second and coming back. We had enough chances to win the game.”
