Liverpool announced earlier in the week that Igor Biscan had been offered an extra year on his contract. This gesture doesn’t seem to have been handed to Vladimir Smicer however.
The Czech player who has frustrated so many Liverpool fans over recent years told a Czech paper he’s not expecting to stay in England: "It’s 90% certain I’ll leave Liverpool – I have two firm offers from important regions."
Smicer regularly showed flashed of brilliance, but never seemed to be able to do this consistently. He’s also been plagued with injuries during his time at the club. He has recently been able to appear from the subs bench for Liverpool, but missed the biggest part of this season due to a knee problem.
Smicer’s Czech team-mate Milan Baros may also be set to leave during the summer, as he’s made a few announcements that have done him no favours. Rafael Benitez will be looking to put his own mark on the Liverpool squad this summer, and will want players with the right attitude.
