Rafael Benitez has made four changes from the team that started against Everton in the Reds’ last Premiership game two weeks ago.
John Welsh makes his first Premiership start following on from his impressive performances for the England under-21s over Easter. His under-21 team-mate, ‘keeper Scott Carson, has also been picked to start.
Djimi Traore makes a return from injury, and Antonio Nunez, a substitute against Everton, is also selected to start.
Fernando Morientes has not quite made the starting eleven after injury, but takes his place on the bench. Sami Hyypia is again on the bench.
