Liverpool FC have today made a brief statement regarding the future of French forward Florent Sinama-Pongolle.
Sinama has been playing on loan in Spain this season, with Recreativo. The loan deal included an option to buy the player outright at the end, and Recre claimed they'd exercised this option, after raising what to them was a huge amount of money, €4m (around £2.7m). They made an announcement on their official site yesterday confirming the deal.
However the Liverpool FC official website points out that, "despite reports to the contrary, the deal has not yet been finalised."
Djibril Cisse went to Marseille on a similar loan deal but the French side are yet to take out their option on making the deal permanent. Cisse has been linked with moves to other Premiership clubs instead, but if no deal is forthcoming he'll be back at Melwood in the summer, although he won't even be close to being in Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez's plans.
