Sky: Sissoko snubs Everton

The Sky Sports website is this evening reporting that Liverpool have pushed Everton aside and agreed a deal for Valencia’s Mohamed Sissoko.

Signed for Valencia during Rafa Benitez’s reign at Valencia, the Mali international player was reportedly on the verge of signing for Everton. A fee of €7.4 million had supposedly been agreed.

In fact Sky claim that midfielder Sissoko was about to fly out to Liverpool to finalise a deal with them, but then in came the European Champions to gazump the-team-that-finished-fourth with a bid of €8 million. If true then he can still use the plane tickets if he’s already bought them.

Sissoko is 20 and was signed from Auxerre. He’ll reportedly be flying over for his medical early next week before signing a four year deal.

The Sky Sports website quotes his agent, Jose Segui, as saying that Valencia have now rejected Everton’s bid, preferring Liverpool’s higher bid, to the player’s delight:  "Valencia have taken the decision and Momo is happier now."

The next Merseyside derby should be interesting for Sissoko, assuming he does sign for the Reds. Some of the emails we received earlier in the week from Everton fans gloating when Gerrard was leaving were quite abusive. In fact very abusive. If this story does happen then Sissoko will be unpopular with the Blue quarter of Merseyside.

We look forward to your emails…
