Djibril Cisse had another night of joy last night as he made a scoring return to the French national side. France were playing Hungary in a friendly game at Metz, and won 2-1. Cisse opened the scoring after 10 minutes from close range. France’s second was scored by one of Gerard Houllier’s new chages, Lyon midfielder Florent Malouda after 35 minutes. On-loan Liverpool midfielder Alou Diarra wasn’t picked for the match.
Scott Carson was an unused substitute for England in their 3-2 victory over Colombia in New York last night. Carson would have gained a lot from the experience of training with the full squad, but is quite far down the pecking order when all goalkeepers are available. The match was won with three goals from Liverpool’s former striker Michael Owen, who moved into fourth place in the all-time goalscorers list for England with his 30th, 31st and 32nd goals.
