Scott Carson was called up to the full England squad today for their tour to the USA as expected. The Liverpool keeper has already starred for England’s Under 21 team.
Carson was signed by Rafa Benitez from Leeds during the January transfer window. Carson will be available for the games England will be playing in the States on May 28th (when they take on the USA in Chicago) and May 31st (against Colombia in New Jersey).
Ex-red David James and Robert Green are likely to be the two ‘keepers chosen to play ahead of Carson, but the tour will be great experience for the youngster. Although the main party will be heading out on May 24th, Carson will leave a little later, as he’ll be in Liverpool’s squad for the Champions League final on May 25th.
Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher won’t be travelling to the states with England however – with pre-season training only starting two-and-a-half weeks after the final, it would be unfair to have them playing two games for England so soon after the end of this season.
