Vladimir Smicer says he’s not now ruling out a move to Lens.
Liverpool signed the Czech star from Lens in 1999 and he had previously said he didn’t want to go back there. Now it seems that Vladi hasn’t had the kind of offers he’d have liked and so the Lens offers looks more interesting.
Smicer is 32 the day before Liverpool’s Champions League final, and hasn’t been offered a new deal by Liverpool. Benitez has had very little opportunity to utilise the player since becoming manager as his injury nightmares continued.
Speaking to the Czech daily newspaper Pravo, Smicer said he was now thinking about the Lens offer: "It’s still too early to make decisions, but I will think about this offer." He was a player there for three years before coming over to England, and was hoping to stay in England. He doesn’t however want to go back to his home country: "For the present I am not in a hurry to return to the Czech Republic."
