Neither of the two Champions League finalists had a happy day today. Whilst Liverpool were suffering their eleventh away defeat of the season, AC Milan were losing to Juventus, 1-0 at the San Siro.
At the start of the game the two Italian teams were level on points and the Juve victory means they are three points clear with three to play. David Trezeguet scored for Juve – the team that Liverpool beat 2-1 at Anfield on their way to Istanbul.
The match looks set to be the last major game refereed by Pierluigi Collina. By turning down two Milan penalty appeals he’ll no doubt have got himself a few extra headlines in Italy.
