Reports in the newspapers this morning suggest that Steven Gerrard could be out of the Juve clash through injury.
The reports claim that he’s aggravated an old groin injury.
Liverpool’s injury problems seemed to be turning round again, with Xabi Alonso taking the first steps towards his return in last Wednesday’s reserve defeat at Leeds.
Alonso is set to be part of the squad tomorrow, but his lack of games mean he may not have been risked from the start. If Gerrard misses the game Rafael Benitez will need to decide whether the risk is worthwhile.
John Welsh has made some impressive appearances recently and could be asked to step in alongside Igor Biscan. Didi Hamman is also missing through injury.
At the moment no statement has been made by Liverpool on the fitness of Gerrard, so the stories may prove to be untrue or exaggerated. Not the first time with stories involving Liverpool’s captain.
