Liverpool take a weakened squad into the Champions League match against Juve tomorrow night. Fernando Morientes and Mauricio Pellegrino are both unavailable due to having played elsewhere in European competition this season. Sami Hyypia is therefore hoping for a return to action, having been on the bench for the last couple of games. A number of players face late fitness tests, and may prove to be available only as substitutes.
The squad for the Champions League is registered with UEFA at the start of the season, and again in the winter. Certain restrictions are in place for changes during the winter. New players cannot be added outside of these times. Liverpool’s official Champions League squad has three goalkeepers available for selection (including Dudek, who is struggling with an injury), and 18 outfield players available – again including some players who are doubtful. Only one forward is available for Liverpool – Milan Baros, although Smicer or Garcia for example could play up front if needed. Baros is suspended from domestic games currently, having served one game of his three-game ban.
